History
Charlotte Apartments was officially opened in March 2004, by the then mayor of Bathurst, Mr Ian Macintosh. It has been operating since 1 January 2004 and is the culmination of a “crazy idea”, a lot of hard work and a long history of involvement in the accommodation industry.
Eva and Karl Matiszik have been involved in accommodation since 1959, starting with one of the first motels in NSW, the “Capri Motel”. Karl has been a builder for many years, now “retired”, and together with Eva, they have built and run, and been involved with, many of the significant motels in Bathurst. They have owned the block of land that Charlotte Apartments now sits on for many years, unsure of the best purpose for it. Together with the urging of their daughter, Sandra (manager of the Bathurst Convention & Function Centre), Karl and Eva decided to take the leap, apply for finance (when others would retire), and build luxury, self-contained, serviced apartments – Charlotte Apartments.
Many of the features at Charlotte Apartments have been a consequence of hours of thought and discussion, based on experience and practicality. For example, most the ground floor units do not have spa baths, providing level access for guests from their car right through to the bathroom. All of the bathrooms have heating, “Tastics” in the ground floor apartments, underfloor heating in the upstairs apartments. If you have visited Bathurst in the wintertime, you would very much appreciate this rare feature! The reverse-cycle airconditioning is independently connected so that the duty manager can arrange for the guests to enter a warmed room in winter or a cooled room in summer. The décor of the apartments reflects the warm tones of a Bathurst autumn, and while practical, still invites the guest to enjoy the room, creating a “home away from home”.
Charlotte apartments was designed to be for the many business travellers who visit Bathurst, either for one day or for a few weeks or months, and the apartments enjoy a very high ratio of return guests. However, they have also been very popular for recreational travellers because of their size, comfort, location and the independence afforded by the kitchen facilities. The project has now been completed (in Oct ‘07) with three more two bedroom executive apartments.
